- Protecting
the environment
- A
combination of physical,
biological and chemical
processes are used in the
facility to remove impurities
from the wastewater and to
achieve the required degree of
treatment to protect the
environment and water quality in
the receiving waters of the Fox
River.
-
- The
wastewater first passes through
a bar screen removing debris,
then heavy solids like sand or
coffee grounds are settled out
and removed. Next an activated
sludge
process uses
microorganisms to consume
organic waste.
-
- Following
filtration, U.V. technology is
used to disinfect the treated
water before it is discharged
into the Fox River.
The biosolids removed
from the water are stabilized
and eventually used as
fertilizer on agricultural land.
